With this year’s delayed Academy Awards finally coming up on April 25, we at Movie Valhalla decided to celebrate with a week’s worth of winners of the biggest Oscar of them all, Best Picture. As we all know, what Oscar voters choose as the Best Picture is not always the actual best movie of the year, and that has been the case every since the beginning. Starting April 19, we’ll be featuring some of those winners that haven’t exactly stood the test of time. Here’s our current schedule for our “Forgotten Best Picture Winners Virtual Film Festival”:
April 19 – The Broadway Melody (1929 – dir: Harry Beaumont)
April 20 – The Life of Emile Zola (1937- dir: William Dieterle)
April 21 – Going My Way (1944 – dir: Leo McCarey)
April 22 – The Greatest Show on Earth (1952 – dir: Cecil B. DeMille)
April 23 – Tom Jones (1963 – dir: Tony Richardson)
April 24 – Kramer vs. Kramer (1979 – dir: Robert Benton)
April 25 – The Last Emperor (1987 – dir: Bernardo Bertolucci)
So join us for a full week of trying to figure out what the heck Oscar voters were thinking through the decades, just in time to try and figure out what Oscar voters are thinking this year. It’ll be fun.
