HANNAH AND HER SISTERS (1986)

This family comedy/drama centering around two Thanksgiving dinners is thought of by many critics as Woody Allen’s best film, though as a collaboration between Allen and his then-wife Mia Farrow there are some major elephants in the room.

ALIENS (1986)

A bombastic, action-packed sequel that has basically nothing in common with its tense, contained thriller of a predecessor, and yet both are great movies in their own way.

PLATOON (1986)

A very violent, dark Vietnam movie written and directed by an actual Vietnam veteran, so I would say it’s high quality but your mileage may vary.

BLUE VELVET (1986)

An, um, unique take on the dark underbelly of a small town from David Lynch, sort of the proto-Twin Peaks.

HOOSIERS (1986)

As March Madness continues in Indiana, we revisit this 1980s piece of “Pepperidge Farm buncombe” that’s somehow effective despite basically nothing that happens off a basketball court working at all.

AN AMERICAN TAIL (1986)

I have many questions about this animated musical and its story about oppressed Jewish immigrant mice.
