SERGEANT YORK (1941)

I have some thoughts about our American entry’s take on the intersection and patriotism, and also on the completely ridiculous accents basically everyone in this movie has. A lot of people like it though!

SULLIVAN’S TRAVELS (1941)

One of the best remembered comedies of the great Preston Sturges, about a director who is tired of making comedies.

CITIZEN KANE (1941)

Orson Welles’ directorial debut survived vicious attacks to become the closest thing we have to a consensus “Greatest Movie of All Time.”

THE MALTESE FALCON (1941)

A movie that launched legendary careers and an entire classic genre of film, and is also pretty fun in its own right.
