2000 – Movie Valhalla

YI YI (2000)

A three-hour Taiwanese family drama where I lost track of many of the plot-lines and relationships, yet I’m still kind of obsessed with it.

CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON (2000)

Your reader poll winner is a high-flying martial arts extravaganza that I think was the first subtitled movie I (and lots of other people) saw in a theater.

A big old sword and sandals epic that revived the genre and became a personal favorite of mine.

A very weird movie about a guy who desperately wants to fit in, while also periodically axe murdering people.

IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (2000)

An absolutely gorgeous romance about missed opportunities set in 1960s Hong Kong.

ALMOST FAMOUS (2000)

This comedy/drama about a teenage Rolling Stone writer hanging out with a 1970s rock band is probably the 2000 movie I’ve watched the greatest number of times.
