ALL THAT JAZZ (1979)
An “incredibly self-indulgent” sort-of musical in which Bob Fosse “choreographs his own death,” which I gotta say I was absolutely fascinated by.
AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER (1957)
A classic romance with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr, who are both very agreeable as usual, but I have to say that something on a basic level did not work for me.
THE HITCH-HIKER (1953)
A surprisingly tense thriller about two guys who pick up a hitch-hiker only to quickly discover he’s actually a serial killer, that is considered the only “classic” film noir directed by a woman.
THE VISITOR (1979)
A truly nuts lost 70s sci-fi(?)/horror(?) classic(?) involving an evil tween, her pet falcon that pecks out people’s eyes, people in wheelchairs getting thrown through large aquariums, dramatic games of Pong, and John Huston slowly walking down the world’s tallest escalator. I love it so much.
FANTASIA (1940)
Disney’s early foray into “high culture” is probably weirder to than you remember and also includes a satisfying amount of dinosaur-on-dinosaur violence.
